In this original oil painting, I explored the concept of introspection and self-reflection, conveyed through the application of the classical Verdaccio technique. The visual outcome of this piece is very reminiscent of that meticulous, layered process and experience.
SELF-PORTRAIT 1 explores how identity can be described as multifaceted, nuanced, evolving, and complex, encompassing a multitude of layers. Ruminating on past self-beliefs and how we reflect upon ourselves often feels contradictory and contrasting, as portrayed in this study.
I created this work by layering oil pigments over the traditional green underpainting, further merging and solidifying my experiences and identity as both a traditional interdisciplinary artist and a contemporary designer. This piece bridges contemporary identity with timeless artistic tradition.
