In the collage study, TURPENOID, I explored the concept of enveloping touch, conveyed through the appearance of overlapping figures and implied application of running oil paint.
This dripping effect is traditionally achieved with the solvent, Turpenoid, a common go-to in the under-painting stages. The visual outcome of this piece is very reminiscent of that process and experience.
TURPENOID examines how touch itself can be described as many things: lingering, repetitive, soft, and surrounding. Memories and ruminations of how we reflect upon it often blur and overlap, as portrayed in this study.
I created this work by layering imagery in varying hues digitally, further merging and solidifying my experiences and identity as both a traditional interdisciplinary artist and a contemporary designer.
